Apple Computer Inc. of Cupertino, Calif., has upgraded its XServe RAID storage system to provide up to 7TB of storage capacity and sustained throughput of more than 385M bps.

XServe RAID has two independent RAID controllers with 512MB cache per controller and dual 3GB Fibre Channel ports with 200M bps throughput per channel.

It is certified to run in Mac OS X, Windows, NetWare, SuSE and Red Hat Linux environments.

Evertrust, Pegasus Partner to Address Compliance Requirements

Montreal-based Evertrust has partnered with Pegasus Disk Technologies Inc. of San Ramon, Calif., to create a storage solution that helps organizations address compliance issues. The resulting product, called InveStoreACE, aims to help organizations with long-term retention, management, protection and disposition of fixed content and reference information.

InveStoreACE combines Pegasus InveStore storage management software with capabilities from Evertrusts Assureon ILM (information lifecycle management) archive solution. The combined solution will be an appliance with internal disk for caching, with retention policies set up by an administrator and files written to both internal disk and optical media. Files will be eliminated from the cache based on policies set, but remain on optical storage until the end of the retention period, according to Evertrust CEO Thomas Gosnell.

Hewlett-Packard Co. of Palo Alto, Calif., will incorporate a version of Emulex Corp.s InSpeed Model 350 Embedded Storage Switch customized by Emulex in the next generation of the HP StorageWorks EVA (Enterprise Virtual Array) family, including the EVA8000, EVA6000 and EVA4000.

Incorporating the INSpeed Model 350 Embedded Storage Switch provides switching at the disk drive enclosure level and allows for dynamic addition or removal of disk drive enclosures while the EVA is active, according to Mike Smith, Emulexs executive vice president of worldwide marketing.

The switches, which already are integrated into the current StorageWorks EVA5000, will come standard on the EVA8000 and EVA6000 and will be optional on the EVA4000.
