Visitors walking the exhibit halls of the cavernous Jacob Javits Convention Center this week will discover a wide range of storage. While described as the “enterprise computing marketplace,” the new CeBIT America show also features a number of consumer storage products in addition to those aimed at business applications. Finisar Corp. this week announced the introduction of the next generation of Analysis and Monitoring solutions, Xgig, for Fibre Channel and Ethernet-based networks. The first of the Xgig series, introduced in May, was the BERT (Bit Error Rate Tester). Now adding to the series of the Xgig suite is the first fully-distributed, blade-based analysis architecture for 1Gb & 2Gb Fibre Channel and FCIP Storage Area Networks. This blade-based platform delivers support for full-duplex gigabit links while monitoring, validating and assisting with quick resolution of network infrastructure operations, providing effective instrumentation and reducing mean time to resolution.

StorageTek, aka Storage Technology Corp., and FalconStor Software Inc. announced that the companies had forged a strategic alliance covering product, reseller and service offerings for disk replication and mirroring. Hewlett-Packard this week will announce a new RAID system that supports both Serial-Attached SCSI and Serial ATA drives. The unit will ship by mid-2004, the company said. The mix-and-match capabilities could potentially lower storage costs by allowing IT administrators to provision capacity based on the type of data thats being stored. CommVault Systems Inc. will demonstrate a number of products including its new “Shadow Explorer” software for Microsoft Windows Server 2003. The new utility leverages the capabilities of services including the Volume Shadow Copy Services (VSS) and Virtual Disk Service (VDS), and lets customers easily manage hardware and software shadow copies that can be moved between storage devices on a storage-area network. Toshiba this week introduced its 512MB Secure Digital memory card. The card features a maximum data transfer rate of 10MB per seccond. The SD-M5124BX card consists of two of Toshibas 2Gbit NAND flash memory devices.

Iomega Corp. this week announced of its Super DVD Drive, which can handle DVD-R/RW, DVD+R/+RW and DVD-RAM formats. The internal version will be available in August for $329.95 and an external version will follow in September, the company said. Read the full press release here.
