Texas Memory Cache Boosts RAID Performance

Texas Memory Systems Inc. this week released an external storage cache that sits in front of RAID storage devices to boost performance of storage systems linked via Fibre Channel. The RamSan-330 boasts 16GB to 64GB of memory to cache the most popular data on a storage system, then distributes it at a maximum rate of 3G bps, the company said. The cache appliance sits between the network and RAID devices, and links to storage area networks (SAN) servers and switches via eight 2-Gigabit Fibre Channel ports.

FirewireDirect Ships StingRay 800 Hard Drive

FirewireDirect.com Inc. is shipping its StingRay 800, a new desktop hard drive featuring a dual USB 2.0 and FireWire 800 interface and a 3.5-inch drive mechanism. The StingRay 800 is available in capacities up to 320GB, according to FirewireDirect.com. The 320GB model is available with a 5,400-rpm mechanism. The other models, with capacities of 80GB through 250GB, operate at 7,200 rpm instead. The drive uses Oxford Semiconductors Oxford 922 chip set.

Netezza Raises $20M Third Round Financing

Netezza Corp. raised $20 million in a third round of venture financing, the company announced this week. Investors were Sequoia Capital, which led the round, Matrix Partners, Charles River Ventures, Battery Ventures and Orange Ventures. Netezza, which sells the Netezza Performance Server, has now raised $53 million in venture capital. The company launched its product, a system that combines servers, storage and database into a single appliance that can process data analysis queries faster, in the fall of 2002.
