Storage Technology Corp. (StorageTek) acquired Storability Inc. on Thursday for an undisclosed sum in an attempt to boost the storage management and monitoring software delivery capabilities of its ILM (information lifecycle management) portfolio.

Under the asset-purchase transaction, Louisville, Colo.-based StorageTek acquired all of Storabilitys intellectual property, software license agreements and customer contacts held by the Southborough, Mass.-based storage management maker. The two storage companies have been close bedfellows as far back as July 2002, when StorageTek acquired Storabilitys Storage Operations Center to power what has become its Remote Managed Storage Service.

Storability has built its suite of software offerings upon its ESRM (Enterprise Storage Resource Management) technology.

Last week, the company unveiled the newest version of its policy-based flagship Global Storage Manager product, which allows end-users to centrally managed and measure storage assets across multiple infrastructure components including storage devices, switches, network fabric, backup applications and databases.

StorageTek will hold its annual FORUM customer conference in San Antonio, Texas, beginning Oct. 12. According to sources, StorageTek will take the covers off of several product updates to its ILM technology at the event.
