Toshiba’s Digital Products Division has rolled out a pair of drives that it claims increases the performance and storage capacities of desktop PCs and notebooks.
The Canvio Desk Desktop External Hard Drive is a high-capacity storage device that is available now for purchase at select retailers and on the company’s Website for $249.99 for the 4TB model and $299.99 for the 5TB model. The 2.5-inch Internal Solid State Hybrid Drive is available for $129.99 for the 500GB model and $179.99 for the 1TB model.
Featuring a built-in USB 3.0 interface, the Canvio Desk Desktop drive improves file transfer performance for large media files while minimalizing the wait time for backup. It is supported both in horizontal and vertical orientation.
Backed by a three-year limited warranty, the drive also features NTI Backup Now EZ software, which gives the desktop drive the ability to scan computer systems and recommend the best comprehensive coverage.
In addition, this feature gives users the ability to restore any file that is saved on their computers, while also providing password-protected data encryption to ensure that backup files are safe from unauthorized access.

For the solid-state hybrid drive, Toshiba combines its hard drive and NAND technology with a Serial ATA interface to offer increased performance, capacity and compatibility.
Compatible with most notebooks, the drive delivers solid-state drive (SSD)-like performance and responsiveness by combining NAND flash and self-learning algorithms with up to 1TB of storage capacity in a compact series of 2.5-inch hard drives.
In February, the company introduced the Canvio Home Backup & Share, a network-attached storage (NAS) hub for the connected home that brings together islands of content and allows access to digital content.
Available in capacities of up to 3TB, the Canvio Home enables the availability of content on a contextual basis across multiple devices, screens and locations.
The appliance works with a wide range of operating systems, including Windows PCs, Mac computers, iPhone and iPad mobile devices, and Android-based smartphones and tablets, as well as Digital Living Network Alliance (DLNA)-compatible media streaming devices.
Toshiba’s offerings join competitors such as WD’s (formerly Western Digital) My Cloud, a high-performance, four-bay NAS solution for creative professionals, workgroups and users looking to store large amounts of data.
