Citing widespread dot-com demise and the effects of the depressed economy on the IT work force, the Federal CIO Council has joined with the Office of Personnel Management to host a virtual IT job fair that will run April 22-26 at the OPMs site, www.usajobs.opm.gov.
The job fair was inspired by a report on the IT work force from the National Academy of Public Administration that found that many IT professionals had lost their jobs post-Sept. 11. Ira Hobbs, co-chair of the Federal CIO Council work force and Human Capital for IT Committee, said in a release that the job fair is the governments response to a “unique opportunity to upgrade the Federal IT work force while helping the nations economy recover.”
The OPM and Hobbs committee have developed a specialized online application and assessment process for candidate evaluation. After taking competency tests and technical skills self-certification exams, candidates will then be able to apply for IT positions ranging from GS-7 through GS-13 grade levels at government agencies.
