PKI Without the Hassle
PKI implementations come with hefty time and financial investments. A New York company said it has a way around them.
CertCo Inc. last week released an electronic-signing product that is designed to perform all the functions of a full public-key infrastructure implementation without the attendant financial requirements. CertSigner is based on a community structure in which all participants contractually agree to abide by certain terms and conditions to participate.
Users authenticate using their normal method and can then generate their own credentials or import existing credentials from a certificate authority such as Baltimore Technologies plc. or RSA Security Inc.
The software, available now, uses a browser-based plug-in to provide digital-signing capabilities. A server-based application verifies digital certificates and maintains secure transaction records.
