Cyclades to Manage Service Processors

Cyclades is rolling out an appliance to manage service processors, which are server components separate from the main processor that give users remote access to areas such as power control, server configuration and monitoring.

Service processors are becoming more popular in systems from the major OEMs but many times are underused because of a lack of standards and management capabilities, according to Cyclades CEO and co-founder Daniel Dalarossa. The companys AlterPath OnBoard aims to change that, he said.

"They all have service processors," Dalarossa said. "This is an appliance that connects all of these service processors."

Available in December and priced starting at $3,000, AlterPath OnBoard consolidates and secures the Ethernet connections to the service processors in traditional servers and blade systems, letting users manage them from a single interface. It works with most server management software, such as HPs OpenView.
