Security software maker Network Associates Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc. this week announced that the companies are working together on a security solution for TIs OMAP (Open Media Applications Platform) cell phone application processors for next-generation networks.
Based on NAIs McAfee software, the products will be able to communicate below the application layer of devices, which should protect them from bad code, officials said.
“TI is focused on developing secure wireless technology to enable increased communication with the optimal combination of performance, increased battery life and enhanced services,” said Alain Mutricy, vice president and worldwide OMAP platform general manager at TI in Dallas, who spoke at a wireless security event at the 3GSM World Congress in Cannes, France, on Tuesday. “Network Associates complements TIs on-chip hardware security to enable the rapid development of secure 2.5G and 3G wireless handsets and PDAs.”
OMAP licensees include major handheld device and phone manufacturers including Nokia Corp., Palm Inc., NEC Solutions America Inc. and Fujitsu Ltd.
