Monitoring Tool Armed With New Sensors

Heroix Corp. today continued to play to its installed base of application-performance management customers with new features in the latest release of its Heroix eQ Management Suite.

Version 1.5 of the monitoring, reporting and alerting tool adds 18 new sensors for monitoring Microsoft Active Directory implementations. The sensors are intended to help detect problems with authentication, replication and connectivity.

The new release of the suite, which competes with BMC Software Inc.s Patrol in the Unix world and NetIQs Windows NT application management software, also adds a new series of graphs and reports on Oracle applications running on Unix, Linux and Windows NT systems.

The reports, which can be grouped according to the roles of the people for whom they are intended, cover memory usage and efficiency, table-space usage, and other areas. The reports can be e-mailed or published to an intranet.

To improve scalability and security, the Newton, Mass., firm created a new view in the tools Web-based event monitor that allows users to only view those servers with critical errors, without having to scroll through hundreds of servers.

On managed Linux and Unix servers, eQ Management Suite 1.5 allows customers to specify server-by-server which privileges they want to grant users.

For long-time users working with Heroixs original RoboMon tool, the new eQ release brings support for OpenVMS monitoring on VAX and Alpha server platforms.

“Were still seeing a lot of business in the OpenVMN arena,” said Brian Collins, product manager in Newton, Mass.

Although the new release is not likely to raise the visibility of the low-profile, privately-held firm, it continues to serve customers well, believes Valerie OConnell, managing director at Aberdeen Group Inc.s enterprise management group in Boston.

“All those features are things their customers have wanted. They have a very happy customer base,” she said.

The new release is available now and is priced at $695 per managed server.
