AUSTIN, Texas—Dell officials at the Dell World 2015 show here are showing off a security service that they say offers customers a new way of detecting and blocking advanced persistent threats.
The company is offering a technology preview of its SonicWall APT Protection Service, which will be available in both Dell firewalls and email security solutions, according to the company. The service, built atop sandbox technologies that use both system emulation and virtualization, will scan files of any size and hold onto files that could be malicious until a decision on them is made.
The service takes advantage of Dell’s SonicWall GRID cloud forensics platform that uses real-time analytics from more than 500,000 connected next-generation firewalls.
The new service is part of a larger package of security offerings rolled out by Dell Oct. 20. Security has been a key focus of Dell’s over the past several years as officials push to transform the company into an enterprise IT solutions and services provider. SonicWall is among several security vendors that Dell has bought. A year before the SonicWall deal in 2012, Dell bought SecureWorks for $612 million. Later in 2012, Dell acquired Credant Technologies.
Other announcements Dell made regarding network security included rolling out a SonicWall firewall interface that enables customers to use a single place to manage and enforce security policies across their network security, switches, wireless networks and WAN acceleration technologies. Dell also added Cyren anti-virus signatures to its SonicWall hosted email security and email security appliances and software. It adds to the multiple anti-virus technologies from the likes of Intel’s McAfee and Kaspersky Labs offered by Dell.
Dell also announced its One Identity Cloud Access Manager 8.1 now includes multi-factor authentication through Dell’s Defender-as-a-Service technology.
Dell also introduced enhanced and new solutions in its Dell Data Protection lineup, including the latest version of the Dell Data Protection/Cloud Edition 2.0 includes Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive for Business, adding to the lineup of Box and DropBox that already was supported.
Dell Data Protection/Server Encryption enables software encryption for Windows servers in branch and remote offices, and the new Endpoint Recovery offering brings simple and continuous backup to laptops, desktops and tablets to reduce data loss and enable fast and easy recovery, officials said.
For customers using the Amazon Web Services (AWS) public cloud, Dell is bringing on-demand Emergency Cyber Incident Response (ECIR) to help organizations investigate cyber incidents that impact the assets they have on the cloud. The technology was developed in conjunction with AWS, and comes as more enterprises are putting production workloads onto the Amazon cloud, officials said.
In addition, Dell Services unveiled AEGIS, which enterprises can use to assess the vulnerabilities in their mission-critical applications and to take measures to prevent problems. AEGIS is part of Dell’s Managed Security Services portfolio.
