Wyse Technology wants to help businesspeople who are on the go to tap into their desktop environments from their mobile Apple devices.

Wyse Aug. 27 introduced a new application that will let users access their PCs and virtual desktops from their iPhone or iPod Touch. Wyse officials said their PocketCloud application not only lets businesspeople access their work environments, but also enables IT administrators to get access to end-user machines through their Apple devices.

Wyse will be showing off PocketCloud during the VMworld 2009 show in San Francisco Aug. 31-Sept. 4.

“Being able to access a remote desktop in the data center, the cloud or your home while on the go using an iPhone or iPod Touch is not only a significant technical achievement, it also reflects Wyse’s philosophy to enable ubiquitous access to data and applications from any mature platform,” Daniel Barreto, chief software architect at Wyse, said in a statement.

Wyse looks to improve the VDI experience with new software, thin client.

The vendor is using an optimized implementation of Microsoft’s RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol) 6.0 to connect the Apple devices with a physical or virtual system. PocketCloud is compatible with Apple’s iPhone 2G, 3G, 3GS and iPod Touch. Users need to be running iPhone OS 3.0.

PocketCloud also supports the connection broker in VMware’s View 3.1. For security, the application supports SSL (Secure Socket Layers), and also has experimental support for RSA two-factor authentication.

The application can connect to Windows 2000, Windows XP Pro, Windows Vista Business, Windows 7, and Terminal Services features in Windows Server products.

Wyse also is including a Windows client-side application with PocketCloud-called PocketCloud Windows-that allows for more advanced capabilities, such as an enhanced server-side browser called Thin-Browser. PocketCloud Windows agent can be downloaded for free here.

PocketCloud can be bought for $29.99 via Apple’s App Store. Companies that run their own Enterprise iPhone App store can buy an enterprise license for PocketCloud.
