HP Pumps Up Identity Management Suite

One year after its latest identity management acquisition, Hewlett-Packard will launch a major upgrade to its identity management suite on Nov. 30.

Almost a year to the date after announcing its acquisition of Trustgenix, HP will introduce new integration, automation and deployment features across the four products that make up the suite.

New integration works both within the product suite, between the suite and other OpenView management offerings, and with third-party applications.

Three of the products, HP Select Identity Software, HP Select Federation Software and HP Select Access Software have been integrated with HP Select Audit Software to provide consolidated auditing, monitoring, alerting, reporting and archiving.

At the same time, HP integrated the suite with its IT Service Management offering—specifically the HP Service Desk, to allow customers to automate, monitor and track the process of resetting user passwords across multivendor systems.

“This will help customers [achieve] end-to-end security, compliance and access across IT Service Management and Identity and Access Management,” said Sai Allavarpu, director of products for HPs identity and security management group in Pleasanton, Calif.

HP will extend integration out to third-party applications via two new Application Program Interfaces and Software Development Kits for Select Access to “help customers manage security policies from within their own custom applications,” said Allavarpu.

The Select Audit SDK is designed to help customers consolidate auditing, reporting and control in one place.

At the same time, Select Federation, based on federated identity management technology acquired with Trustgenix, will integrate with Microsofts Active Directory Federation Services via new support for WS-Federation.

On the automation front, HP added the ability in the suite to automate changes to users rights, changes to users access to services and enforcement of business policies.

By automating change management, customers can better control change in their business processes and security policies “and control change that impacts existing compliance, audit and other processes,” Allavarpu said.

To streamline deployment, HP automated the migration of a secure environment from testing into production to insure that what was certified in the test environment “is what they are getting in the production environment,” he added.

Outside such enhancements, HP also brought Select Federation up to date in support of the OASIS Security Assertions Markup Language 2.0 standard.

The enhanced suite will be available Dec. 1.
