Accelops Offers Web 2.0 View into Data Center Management

Newcomer AccelOps announced it has launched what it claims is the industry’s “first all-in-one data center and IT service management package” for the midtier market. No hardware required: It can be delivered as either a virtual appliance or a Web service. Whether it’s the “first” may be arguable — especially by companies named CA, BMC, Novell, Symantec and several others.

Cloud service? You probably could call it that. Storage angle? If you select the Web service, you don’t have to worry about it. All the data will be ready for you when you need it, on demand.

AccelOps, created by the folks who brought you Protego MARS — which was later acquired by Cisco Systems — provides a single Web-based view into data center operations so that IT managers can view it all on their laptops wherever they are in the world and whenever they want. Accuracy and accessibility are the key value points.

The new software/service combines 15 core IT management functions and combines discovery, monitoring and alerting, automated service mapping and SLA tracking, identity access and compliance controls, ops data management and reporting capabilities.

“AccelOps delivers a level of integrated functionality, implementation ease, rapid results and value not previously available to the [mid]market,” CEO and founder Imin Lee told The Station.

AccelOps aggregates, cross-correlates, consolidates and manages diverse operational data spanning configurations, network flows, log-ins, protocols, events, files and other sources across network devices. It also monitors security devices, systems, applications, databases, virtualized environments, locations, users and directories.

Backing up the company’s claims, Michael Cote, lead industry analyst at Redmonk Research, said: “AccelOps provides a striking level of depth, breadth and integration for IT management, offering automated business service management capabilities packaged right for midtier enterprises.”
