Emerson Network Power, which already has a substantial world presence with its data center power supply business, added another global company to its portfolio on Sept. 3.

The St. Louis-based corporation said it has acquired Chloride Group PLC, one of Europe’s leading UPS (uninterrupted power supply) makers, for $1.5 billion.

Chloride, which does not make chlorine or other chemicals, has respected UPS technology, a long-term European presence and service/custom power packages that will work hand-in-hand with Emerson’s other businesses, including Liebert, Avocent, Energy Systems, Knürr, ASCO and Aperture.

The addition of Chloride strengthens Emerson’s ability to enable the company’s branded Business-Critical Continuity solution and deliver more complete IT infrastructure power packages, the company said.

Of course, continued rapid growth in data traffic and a critical business need for high availability is driving the need for more power continuity solutions, so Emerson apparently is gearing up for years of future growth.
