Application acceleration provider HyperSpace Communications last week agreed to acquire MPC Computers in a deal valued at about $16 million.

The smaller software company is acquiring MPC from its current owner, Gores Technology Group, which acquired MPC from Micron Technology four years ago. MPC has 800 employees and makes some 50,000 PCs, laptops, desktops and servers annually. HyperSpace intends to bundle its Web application acceleration software, called HyperWeb and HyperTunnel, in the MPC offerings, said company officials.
