Strengthening its position as an enterprise resource planning software provider in the midtier retail market, Lawson Software Inc. announced today the acquisition of English consultancy and software developer Numbercraft Ltd.
Numbercraft, of Oxford, England, develops analytic applications for the retail and consumer packaged goods vertical markets.
Lawson, of St. Paul, Minn., provides ERP software for vertical markets that include retail, health care, professional services, financial services and the public sector.
The acquisition of privately held Numbercraft is effective immediately. The terms of the deal were undisclosed.
Numbercraft, which has a strong following in the U.K., uses advanced mathematics to help convert large volumes of customer, product and sales data into information that can be used when making decisions, Lawson officials said. The company also comes with a healthy consulting business.
Lawson plans to continue Numbercrafts consulting arm for both retailers and CPG manufacturers. At the same time, Lawson will introduce several packaged analytics applications based on Numbercrafts technology that will integrate with Lawsons legacy retail apps.
“In retail, weve already provided our customers with a broad set of … merchandising and back-office applications. Were now adding very sophisticated applications for analyzing customer behavior and retail revenue streams [that are] designed to help retailers address both revenue and margin challenges,” said James DeSocio, Lawsons executive vice president for retail, in a statement.
