Iona Technologies Inc. has released a tool that company executives said enables developers to create Web services that can run on either of the leading platforms: Microsoft Corp.s .Net and Sun Microsystems Inc.s J2EE.
Version 1.2 of Ionas XMLBus, introduced at midmonth, supports .Net, Microsofts SOAP (Simple Object Access Protocol) Toolkit and Java 2 Enterprise Edition and runs on Ionas own iPortal application server as well as BEA Systems Inc.s WebLogic and IBMs WebSphere.
The technology supports the various open-standard protocols, including SOAP; Universal Description, Discovery and Integration; and Web Services Definition Language, according to officials at Iona, of Waltham, Mass.
