Are you looking for an easier, low-cost way to give your companys customers self-service, around-the-clock access to information via the telephone? General Magic Inc., of Sunnyvale, Calif., last month began shipping a suite of voice infrastructure software components for Java developers to add voice applications by leveraging common language and programming tools.

MagicTalk Enterprise Platform 1.0 is designed to reduce voice application development time and facilitate simple integration of the applications with enterprise applications and back-end systems.

The platform consists of a PC-based desktop Developer Workbench for creating and testing VXML (VoiceXML)-based voice applications. The workbench includes a development tool for point-and-click drafting of ap- plications; reusable, extensible Java dialog components to enable high- quality, consistent voice user interfaces; a central repository to store and retrieve voice assets; a debugger; and a Virtual Telephony Client for rapid testing and debugging of VXML scripts.

MagicTalk Enterprise Platform 1.0 is available now and is priced based on the size of deployment. A four-CPU application with 48 telephony ports costs about $450,000 for the licensed software, including the enterprise platform software, speech recognition software, VXML interpreter, the voice gateway—which provides the telephony interface—and personalization software.
