Encouraging Google app developers to get their work out into the marketplace so they can make sales to consumers and businesses and tap more deeply into the Android and Google ecosystems is a key goal of the Google I/O 2014 developers conference, which opens today in San Francisco.
To encourage and assist developers with that strategy, the two-day I/O conference will feature a host of special sessions to show developers many of the steps and resources they can use to increase their app sales through efficient distribution, wrote Ellie Powers, a product manager on the Google Play team, in a June 24 post on the Google Developers Blog.
“Now that you’ve designed your app and developed it with the power of Google technologies, you need to attract, retain and grow your audience” to build a successful app business, wrote Powers.
A session on “Making Money on Google Play“, which will be held from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. ET today at the conference, will review developer success stories and revenue drivers, she wrote. Developer tips for getting the most out of Google Play will also be shared.
A “Google Play Power Session” will be held from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, June 26, to explain how developers can leverage Google’s products to make a great app, build their user base, expand their apps onto new device types and reach people globally, wrote Powers. “The multi-device mobile app world presents huge opportunities for developers to connect with users, and Google Play is one of the richest and most competitive business ecosystems on the planet.”
Advice will also be offered on how to take apps to a larger, worldwide audience, wrote Powers. A “Going Global with Google Play” session will be held from noon to 12:45 p.m. ET on Thursday to provide pro tips and best practices to do just that. “Think your app or game has what it takes to become a global hit? Get key insights into major international markets and trends of successful apps and games in those regions,” wrote Powers.
Also being held is a “Maximize app engagement, monetization and distribution” session from 5 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, to help developers improve their revenue as they market their products, she wrote. “Do you have a monetization plan? An easy way for your users to pay? Does anyone know about it? How are you tracking success? In addition to providing the platforms and tools to design and develop your apps, we also have solutions to help make it discoverable and more profitable.” Advice will also be presented about how to understand and find the most valuable users, while also explaining how to sell apps to different groups of people around the world. This session will be live-streamed during the event.
The distribution tips are part of this year’s I/O 2014 theme, which is all about helping developers design, develop and distribute their applications and innovations using Google tools and resources.
Earlier this week, Google unveiled some of the sessions and activities that will help developers design and develop their products. The conference includes a full schedule of events, announcements, seminars, training sessions and much more to help Google developers add to their skills and product-building tool boxes. Among those sessions are a live-streamed “What’s new in Android” presentation from 4 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. ET today, which will cover the latest developments in Android technologies and APIs; as well as a live-streamed “Making the mobile Web fast, feature-rich and beautiful” session from 1 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. ET on Thursday, which will detail topics such as the mobile Web and how it should be approached by developers.
Also scheduled is a “Predicting the future with the Google Cloud Platform” session from 7 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. ET session on Thursday, where developers will learn about data extraction, modeling and prediction, while watching the generation of a live dashboard to visualize the results.
Notable speakers at this year’s I/O event include Ray Kurzweil, Regina Dugan, Peter Norvig and a panel of robotics experts hosted by Women Techmakers.
Meanwhile, the design theme at the conference will include sessions about “Designing for wearables,” which will be held today from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET, featuring Google designers who will discuss the process for Android Wear and Glass, and give tips for developers and designers working in this emerging space.
The full Google I/O schedule can be viewed on the event’s Website.
