A new software connector lets mobile workers access e-mail from a wireline or wireless telephone.
Called Informio SpeedMail, the product from Informio Inc., of Lexington, Mass., allows people on the move to enter their e-mail systems simply by speaking over the phone.
Users can browse e-mail message headers, listen to messages, send new voice messages to contacts in the corporate or personal address book, listen to Windows sound file attachments recorded by other SpeedMail users, and delete old e-mail messages, among other things.
A user calls a special SpeedMail number to enter Lotus Development Corp.s Notes, and Informio routes the call over the Informio Voice Service—which handles the text-to-speech recognition—to SpeedMail software, which runs behind the corporate firewall. Then, SpeedMail looks for the messaging server for the users e-mail messages and plays the content of each message over the phone.
Pricing is based on volume of enterprise customer use, ranging from $20 to $30 per user per month.
