Softscape Inc. is looking to make administrators and human resources departments more effective with an upgrade of its human capital management software.

AchievementPlus Version 9.5, which the Wayland, Mass., developer will release this week, includes features for compensation modeling, learning content management and goal management.

For instance, a new Incentive Management module enables managers to calculate variable compensation plans for sales teams and executives. Because it is integrated with the rest of Softscapes AchievementPlus system, this module can compare proposed payments with a companys compensation rules and route reports to appropriate reviewers, Softscape officials said.

The upgrade also includes an instant messaging component so managers can more easily and securely communicate with one another when seeking information and reporting on employee performance.

The new IM capabilities were attractive to Hank Jonas, who uses the Performance Management and 360 Feedback modules in AchievementPlus at Corning Inc., where he is the manager for organizational effectiveness.

The Corning, N.Y., company gathers executive candidates from its worldwide operations as part of a training program. When the candidates return to their offices, they would be able to use Softscapes IM technology to follow up with mentors they met at earlier gatherings, Jonas said.

“I think this would work well for us at Corning,” Jonas said. “With IM, there would be a simple way for candidates to follow up in real time with problem areas and get a quick answer back” without having to leave their applications.
