Apple has announced that iPhone 5 owners who have been experiencing problems with the battery life on their devices could now be eligible for a free battery replacement under a new repair program.

In a post on Apple’s website, the company admitted that a small percentage of iPhone 5 devices need to be charged more frequently than others or are prone to rapidly losing battery life.

According to Apple, batteries will be replaced if a user’s phone is experiencing these symptoms and has a serial number that meets eligibility requirements. The replacement process is available immediately in the U.S. and China.

After years of being one of the top contributors to the open-source OpenStack, VMware is taking the next logical step by announcing its own OpenStack distribution.

VMware formally announced its new Integrated OpenStack offering at the VMworld conference yesterday. Along with its leadership in OpenStack networking, VMware has made multiple contributions to other areas of OpenStack, including compute and storage, over the years.

In an effort to fuel the adoption of what Dell executives call the software-defined data center, Dell will be embracing VMware’s NSX network virtualization.

This is the latest move by Dell to push its open networking vision based on software-defined networking and hardware that runs on standard processors.

Dell’s networking platform, combined with VMware’s NSX and Cumulus Networks’ Linux-based operating system offers enterprises and midmarket players the foundation for agile and open software-defined data centers.

Enterprise software specialist Novell announced a number of updates to its mobile portfolio, among them is iPrint 1.1, an enterprise-level print system designed to simplify mobile printing while leveraging existing security and data governance measures.

The iPrint server is a virtual appliance that runs under several virtual environments and simplifies the IT department’s work by enabling self-service printer provisioning to a system that handles a range of user devices from desktop to laptop to mobile.
