    HP Introduces New Wireless Devices

      Hewlett-Packard Co. on Sunday announced several new products and partnerships focused on local and wide-area wireless communication at this weeks ITU Telecom World 2003 in Geneva.

      eWEEK.com Wireless Center Editor Guy Kewney took a look at a number of the other announcements at this weeks ITU Telecom show and Sierras new Microsoft-powered SmartPhone.

      Among the products HP announced were:

      • Software that enables Nokia Corp.s Series 60 phones to send multimedia messages to HP printers via a Bluetooth local wireless connection.
      • New printers that support both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi wireless LAN connections.
      • Three new lines of notebooks. The HP nc6000 and nc8000 both support 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g WLAN connections and Bluetooth, as does the HP Compaq Mobile Workstation nw8000. In addition, all three lines include several new security features for safe wireless connectivity.
      • The HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100, which also includes WLAN support. The company introduces a couple of models based on different processors. One model uses an Intel Corp. Centrino chip set, which supports 802.11b only. The other includes the Intels Pentium M processor as well as a separate WLAN radio that supports 802.11a, 802.11b and 802.11g from Atheros Communications Inc.
      • Two new iPaq Pocket PC devices. Both the h4150 and h4350 support Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connections. The 4350 also includes an integrated backlit keyboard, according to HP officials in Palo Alto, Calif. The company also introduced the HP iPAQ Navigation System, a Bluetooth Global Positioning System receiver that allows users to turn the iPAQ Pocket PC into navigation device.
