With fingerprinting tools, rugged construction and add-on modules for various needs, the RuggON PM-311B is designed for police use.

The PM-311B features an Intel Celeron N2930 1.83GHz processor, 4GB of DDR3L RAM (with an option for 8GB), a choice of 128GB or 256GB or storage, or an optional 128GB FIPS 140-2 Level II SSD secure drive. The tablet runs the Windows 10 IoT Enterprise for Small Tablet operating system or Window Embedded 8.1 Industry Pro for Tablet OS.

The rugged tablet also includes a 7-inch WSVGA (1,024 by 600 resolution) touch-screen display that has a Corning Gorilla Glass cover for scratch and break resistance in the field. The tablet also features an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera with autofocus and LED flash, as well as a 2-megapixel front-facing camera.

The RuggON PM-311B is certified to meet IP65 and MIL-STD-810G standards for protection against water, dirt, dust, shock, heat and cold and other environmental threats. The tablets, which can withstand multiple drops from 5 feet onto concrete, also include GPS capabilities.

Because law enforcement officers do plenty of their work in daylight, the PM-311B tablet includes a bright, clear display that is designed to be easily read in bright sunlight. The devices include WiFi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, near-field communication and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity, as well as optional 4G LTE capabilities.

The PM-311B offers an optional FIPS 140-2 certified encrypted solid-state drive (SSD), as well as capabilities to erase all SSD data with the press of a button. The tablet also features a 508dpi capacitive fingerprint reader to help officers capture accurate fingerprints of suspects. Fingerprints taken on the tablet can then be compared to online databases using the device’s built-in connectivity capabilities.

The RuggON tablet can also be fitted with an optional snap-on module that can read up to three lines of machine-readable-zone (MRZ) data at a time, as well as magnetic swipe cards. More and more countries are using this capability on drivers’ licenses, travel documents and passports, according to RuggON. The MRZ module includes its own processing chip and optics, so it puts no load on the tablet’s CPU.

The RuggON PM-311B tablet comes standard with a 2,900mAh rechargeable battery, but can also be outfitted with an optional 4,200mAh hot-swappable long-life battery. The devices ship with a stylus, a hand strap, a shoulder strap, a handle and an adapter, and can be equipped with other optional accessories, including vehicle and desktop docks and barcode readers.
