T-Mobile will extend its webConnect modem line on March 14 with the addition of the T-Mobile webConnect Rocket USB Laptop Stick, its first to connect subscribers to the high data speeds of its new HSPA+ network, where it’s available.
According to T-Mobile, HSPA+ offers three times the speed of HSPA 7.2 – which is enabled across T-Mobile’s 3G network – with theoretical peak throughput speeds of 21Mbps. It has so far launched HSPA+ in Philadelphia and is working to roll it out to additional cities, with “major cities on both coasts” scheduled to go live over the next few months.
For everyone outside of Philly, the Rocket, like the other webConnect products, is also compatible with T-Mobile’s 3G network and WiFi, and will work with both PCs and Macs.
Additionally, also beginning March 14, T-Mobile will offer a new, tiered pricing suite of Even More and Even More Plus data pricing plans.
Even More plans, which are paired with two-year contracts, are available for $59.99 a month for 5GB per month, with a $0.20 per MB overage fee; or $29.99 a month for 200MB per month, also with a $0.20 per MB overage fee.
The Even More Plus plans, which are free of an annual contract, are available for $49.99 a month for 5GB per month, with a $0.20 per MB overage fee, or $19.99 a month for 200MB per month, again with the $0.20 overage fee.
Both plans offer T-Mobile HotSpot access, which doesn’t – phew! – count toward monthly data usage. Though users can otherwise track usage and avoid overage fees with h T-Mobile webConnect Manager.
The Rocket USB Laptop Stick will be available at Philadelphia T-Mobile retail stores, at T-Mobile.com or by calling 800-T-Mobile. It’ll retail for $99.99 with a two-year contract and EvenMore webConnect data plan.
