Wireless consumers will soon be able to purchase devices with a TI technology that enables them to use 802.11 wireless local area networking and Bluetooth technologies simultaneously.
Texas Instruments announced the release of its new Bluetooth and 802.11 Coexistence Solution on Monday. The solution package, which is a combination of hardware and software, allows users to overcome the interference problems that come with using both Bluetooth and 802.11 in close proximity.
“Bluetooth and 802.11 are very complimentary, and I see the wireless space converging,” said a spokeswoman for TI. “With this technology, we can really make wireless one entity, giving us a flexible option and true mobility.”
Because 802.11b, 802.11g, and Bluetooth occupy the same 2.4 GHz band of frequencies, using both technologies simultaneously without sufficient physical separation between the devices results in bandwidth allocation problems and a loss of function when the signals collide.
