Borland Software Corp. announced Tuesday a new version of its Java 2 Enterprise Edition application server and a new performance solution for J2EE applications.

Borland Enterprise Server 5.2 features productivity enhancements for developers and better performance, according to company officials.

New in Version 5.2 are enhanced integration with the Borland JBuilder 8 Java development tool; support for the recently released Java Development Kit 1.4.1; support for the IPv6 specification; support for native messaging; and enhanced access and reporting support, officials said.

The product is available for Windows, Solaris and Red Hat Linux, and comes in three editions: the Web Edition, the VisiBroker Edition and the AppServer Edition.

The Scotts Valley, Calif., company also announced Borland Optimizeit ServerTrace, which helps find performance issues during J2EE application testing.

The product enables users to test their code and find performance problems and address them down to the line of code level. The tool competes with similar technology from companies like Rational Software Corp., which is in the process of being acquired by IBM.

Optimizeit ServerTrace also features an Automatic Application Quality Analyzer that identifies bottlenecks affecting application performance.
