To fuel gigabit ethernet network deployment, Cisco Systems Inc., of San Jose, Calif., and Intel Corp., of Santa Clara, Calif., clinched a joint marketing agreement late last month.
The manufacturers are packaging Cisco switches with Intel network adapters and silicon as a cost-effective and easy-to-deploy avenue to next-generation systems.
Cisco and Intel are promoting Gigabit Ethernet, also known as 1000BaseT products, as a migration path thats well-suited to midsize companies and branch offices. The products increase speeds in server connectivity and copper networks.
Customers will be able to maintain existing wiring, operating systems, protocols, desktop applications and management tools used for 10/100M-bps connections and will be able to deploy the 1000BaseT solutions incrementally.
Ciscos new 1000BaseT switches include: Cisco Catalyst 3550-12T, Catalyst 2950 Series, Catalyst 4000 Series 24-Port 10/100/ 1000BaseT Line Card and Cisco 1000BaseT GBIC.
The products are available immediately. Prices range from $1,495 for the 2950-12 to $9,995 for the 3550-12T.
