Juniper officials have unveiled the new ACX500 and ACX5000 routers, which offer enhanced capabilities including improved accuracy in detecting signal hand-offs, improved routing of small cell signals and embedded virtualized functions.

New features in the Junos Connectivity Services Director and Cross Provisioning Platform software enable the automated provisioning and unified management of Carrier Ethernet services on multivendor networks.

The new offerings come as mobile service providers are being pushed to supply greater network bandwidth and to more quickly provision services for their customers.

A cyber-espionage group has infected thousands—and possibly tens of thousands—of targets globally using sophisticated malware that has telltale links to code previously attributed to operations carried out by the National Security Agency, according to a Feb. 16 report by Kaspersky Lab.

Dubbed “Equation” due to the complex encryption algorithms and obfuscation techniques found in the malware, the group has operated for at least 15 years, targeting governments and a variety of critical industries, including oil and gas, military contractors, telecommunications and nuclear research. The surveillance effort has also focused on cryptographers and Islamic scholars.

Microsoft’s Outlook apps for iOS and Android have been out only for a couple of weeks, but the company is already issuing updates to help spur adoption by business users.

The apps are based on Acompli, which the software giant acquired on Dec. 1. Wasting little time, Microsoft has issued updates to the apps that include two new IT controls and a smattering of user-centric features.

Just months after closing the $2.1 billion deal for IBM’s x86 server business, Lenovo is developing a prototype server powered by ARM-based processors.

Lenovo, now the world’s third-largest server producer, is working with the Science and Technology Facilities Council, a research organization in the United Kingdom.

The goal is to develop and test highly energy-efficient servers optimized for scale-out workloads in such environments as high-performance computing, cloud computing and Web hosting.
