Juniper Networking Products Aimed at Distributed Environments

Juniper Networks is expanding its networking offerings for distributed environments.

Juniper May 4 announced additions to its SRX Series Services Gateways as well as a new line of Ethernet switches.

The new offerings are part of the Juniper Networks Distributed Enterprise Solutions portfolio, which also includes the company’s Network and Security Manager and Junos Software.

The portfolio is designed to enable businesses to create and deploy networks that are efficient, high-performing and secure, and that can also lower operational costs for facilities of any size.

Juniper officials said the evolving nature of data center computing is increasing complexity of network systems, including the rapidly growing number of operating systems, network layers and management software products. Juniper is trying to reduce that complexity by offering a single-source network OS, centralized management and integrated security capabilities, they said.

The goal is to give enterprises a single platform that brings the same type of network performance and capabilities normally found at headquarters to company sites of any size.

The four additions to the SRX Series can scale integrated services and network capacity to reduce the impact of rising demands and risks put on the network, according to Juniper officials. The four new products-the SRX100, SRx210, SRX240 and the SRX650-support a complete suite of unified threat management and intrusion prevention capabilities.

In addition, the SRX240 offers 16 on-board Gigabit Ethernet ports and four expansion slots, while the SRX650 has eight expansion slots for WAN/LAN interfaces, redundant power supplies and redundant services and routing engines.

The EX2200 line of fixed-configuration Ethernet switches is aimed at such sites as branch offices and campus networks consuming less than two watts per port, giving users a high-performance, low-power offering for access-layer deployments. All that comes at a lower cost than Fast Ethernet enterprise access switches, Juniper officials said.

The new switches support Junos software-based Layer 2 and 3 switching capabilities. The models include the EX2200-24T-4G and EX2200-48T-4G offer 24 and 48 10/100/1000BASE-T ports, while the EX2200-24P-4G and EX2200-48P-4G offers similar configurations with full IEEE 802.3af PoE (power over Ethernet) for converged network devices.

The SRX210, SRX240 and SRX650 are available immediately, starting at $1,099. The SRX100 will be available in the third quarter, and the EX2200 line will be available in the first quarter 2010.
