MPC Computers LLC on Monday continued its drive to grow its product line beyond desktops, unveiling a new four-way server and two new notebooks aimed at the enterprise and government spaces.

MPC—formerly MicronPC—rolled out its NetFrame 6600 server, which is powered by up to four Intel Corp. 2GHz Xeon MP processors and offers up to 2MB of Level 3 on-die cache. The Xeon chips also feature Intels hyperthreading technology, which enables a single processor to act as two virtual chips.

The 6600, which comes in 4U rack-optimized or 7U pedestal configurations, also offers Ultra 320 hard drives and an integrated Ultra 320, and can be expanded with up to 10 hot-swappable hard drives that could mean more than 1TB of internal storage.

The server is available now with a basic configuration price of $7,049. That includes a single 1.5GHz Xeon MP chip and 512MB of SDRAM. The 6600 is a refreshed version of the Nampa, Idaho, companys four-way NetFrame 6500, with more powerful features such as a 533 front-side bus and the integrated Ultra 320 drives, said Paul Petersen, vice president of product marketing and development.

MPC also rolled out two new notebooks, the TransPort X1000—designed as a desktop replacement—and the TransPort V2000.

As a desktop replacement model, the three-spindle X1000 includes a fixed floppy drive, hard drive and a removable optical device. The company also integrated its biometric fingerprint-recognition technology for data security. The system supports Pentium 4-M chips up to 2.4GHz and a modular device bay that allows for such peripherals as a second hard drive.

A base configuration price for the X1000, which is available now, is $1,750.

The V2000, which starts at $1,199 and also is available now, is aimed at budget-conscious businesses or in such environments as schools, officials said. It is powered by 2.53GHz Pentium 4 chips or Intels Celeron processors. Both notebooks offer up to 1,024MB of memory and integrated dual-mode antenna for 802.11 a/b wireless networking capabilities.

The new server and notebooks are the latest step in MPCs push to broaden its product offerings, and Petersen said the company later this year will announce an entry-level server as well as new storage products.
