Stratus Technologies this week is rolling out a new Windows-based fault-tolerant system that offers three times the performance and eight times the I/O bandwidth of its predecessor.
Stratus also offers a host of supporting services around the ftServer W Series 4300—which replaces the 3300—and its companion server, the 4600, which was announced in June. The new Stratus Active Upgrade, which will be available in the first quarter of next year, will let users perform software updates and operating system patches online while the server continues to run. In addition, through the Virtual Technician Module, administrators can remotely monitor, diagnose and fix the systems.
The 4300 comes in a 4U (7-inch) rack system or a pedestal configuration. It runs on 3.2GHz Xeon chips from Intel and enterprise SATA (Serial ATA) drives supporting up to six physical disks.
