Ever eager to get a foot in the door of corporate customers, handheld computer company Palm Inc. on Tuesday announced a new deal with customer relationship management software leader Siebel Systems Inc.

Under the terms of the deal, both companies will sell new software from Siebel that runs on devices that support Palm OS.

Siebel Sales Handheld 7 is the mobile version of Siebel Sales 7, a Web-enabled sales force automation application that customers use for such tasks as managing contacts, tracking deals and forecasting sales.

“Palm and Siebel have made a joint investment to really go after the enterprise market,” said Laurie Wood, director of the enterprise business development group at Palm in Santa Clara, Calif., which primarily focuses on establishing relationships with Fortune 100 technology companies. “We have traditionally come into enterprises through the back door.”

Siebel Sales Handheld 7 for Palm OS will be available in the first quarter of next year.
