Snapchat has expanded access to its AI-powered Imagine Lens, a generative image tool that allows users to create visuals directly from text prompts.
Originally available only to Lens+ and Snapchat Platinum subscribers, the feature is now rolling out to all ‘Snapchatters’ in the United States, with Canada, the UK, and Australia next on the list.
According to the company, “Snapchatters use Lenses in our Snapchat camera more than 8 billion times everyday to play, explore, and express themselves in new ways.”
The Imagine Lens builds on this engagement by introducing Open Prompt Image Generation, where users simply type an idea and watch it come to life — turning text into instantly shareable AI-generated visuals.
Spaces into scenes
Examples of how people are already using Imagine include transforming mundane spaces into fantastical scenes, previewing Halloween costume ideas before committing to them, and crafting humorous or imaginative responses for moments when “nothing else quite fits.”
Snapchat is also offering users a few free generations to experiment with the technology before deciding how much they want to use it.
To access the tool, users can locate the Imagine Lens in the Lens Carousel or search for it by name. After typing a prompt or choosing one of the preloaded ideas, they can create and share their generated Snaps across the platform or beyond it.
Are trends electric?
The move underscores a growing trend among social media platforms to integrate AI into creative expression tools.
AI-generated imagery, powered by models similar to those behind leading text-to-image systems, is redefining digital communication by lowering barriers to creativity.
However, it also raises new considerations about authenticity and responsible content sharing. Snapchat has encouraged users to “keep it fun, stay transparent, and share responsibly when you use or post AI-edited or generated content.”
By opening Imagine Lens to a wider audience, Snapchat is aiming to position itself at the intersection of generative AI and social media creativity — giving millions of users a new way to visualize their ideas while subtly shaping the future of AI-driven self-expression online.
Picture this conflict. OpenAI has unveiled its AI-powered web browser, ChatGPT Atlas, opening a new front in the search battle between the company and its rival, Google.
