Upside Magazines showcase for startups was rather somber this year. With fewer attendees, the auditorium was nearly empty by the second day.

Still, the New Economy has left its mark. In honor of the Internet bubble, moderator Jesse Berst listed some ways the New Economy has changed the way we talk.

They say: Its like looking for a needle in a haystack. We say: Its like looking for truth in a business plan.

They say: That will happen when hell freezes over. We say: That will happen when Amazon turns a profit.

They say: It could be worse. We say: It could be Pets.com.
