Hewlett-Packard this week is introducing a workstation and a desktop PC that both have 64-bit capabilities, better security and support for Intels dual-core Pentium processors. HP is making the announcements at Microsofts WinHec conference.
HPs xw4300 Workstation features Intels 64-bit Pentium 4 processor and 955X chip set. The Compaq dc7600 comes in three form factors—a desktop, convertible tower and minitower, according to officials.
The dc7600 offers embedded security based on the TPM (Trusted Platform Module) 1.2 security standard, through HPs Protect Tools technology. Previously, HP workstations and desktops offered such security as options. The embedded security is necessary to take advantage of security features in Microsofts upcoming “Longhorn” release, officials said.
HP is also rolling out a new AMD-based commercial desktop, the dx5150, that supports Microsofts new Windows XP Professional x64 Edition operating system. HP is supporting the new operating system on all its professional workstations.
The systems will be available later this spring.
