The Wizard of Oz is a parable of computer and network security, said Ira Winkler, chief security strategist of Hewlett-Packard Co., at the conference on IT security hosted this week by Washington Group International in Boise, Idaho.

“The moral of the story only seems to be, Theres no place like home,” said Winkler, who delighted the audience of more than 200 IT pros with his rapid-fire summary of the saga of Dorothy and friends.

The real message, said Winkler, is that Dorothys ruby slippers are like the security tools and well-known industry best practices that are available to anyone who wants them: “The solutions to your problems are right there today, if you can only recognize them,” Winkler concluded.
