Fibre Channel Switch Hits 2G-bps Throughput

Challenges rivals QLogic Corp., an end-to-end SAN infrastructure provider, has come up with a Fibre Channel switch that it says is bigger and faster than its counterparts.

16 ports The Aliso Viejo, Calif., company has launched the SANbox2 16-port Fibre Channel switch for OEMs. QLogic champions the switch as providing twice the throughput—2G bps—and twice as many ports as 1G-bps switches for the same price.

Price range SANbox2 includes auto-sensing and self-configuring ports and provides connections to servers, storage devices, directors and other switches. To simplify the work of IT managers, the product complies with interoperability standards. SANbox2 is priced between $15,000 and $18,000. Its available to OEMs now, and general distribution is expected by the end of the month.
