Software made available last month from startup InterSAN Inc. aims to tackle storage management where larger vendors have fumbled.

The product, Pathline, has such features as automated provisioning, service-level measurement and policy-based security for storage area networks.

In addition, Pathline helps with device discovery and monitoring, said officials with the Scotts Valley, Calif., company.

InterSAN bases Pathline on an Oracle Corp. database.

A major version release of Pathline is scheduled for late this year and will feature improved server management, service-level agreement performance monitoring and a larger array of device and policy support, officials said.

Pricing for a base system of 10 terabytes starts at about $80,000.
