      DataCore announces the SANmaestro Utilization and Monitoring Suite, while EMC offers a new version of its Documentum Content Intelligence Services. On the hardware front, Hitachi Global Storage Technologies and Maxell release new hard drives and tape media, respectively.

      DataCore Announces Software Environment and Resource Analysis/Monitoring Package for SANs and Windows Systems

      The SANmaestro Utilization and Analysis Suite, announced by DataCore Software Corp. of Ft. Lauderdale, Fla., allows IT administrators to monitor, analyze and report critical storage and Windows events across enterprises. The software provides performance metrics and utilization information through a series of reports, charts and trend analysis.

      The software, aimed at SANs (storage area networks) and Windows systems, allows administrators to collect system performance and utilization metrics in real time, perform what/if analyses, profile performance and usage patterns and trends, and analyze historical data accumulated over the previous two years.

      EMC Unveils Content Classification Software

      EMC Corp. has announced the latest version of its Documentum Content Intelligence Services software, which automates the classification and categorization of enterprise content.

      Documentum CIS 5.3, which works with EMCs Documentum 5.3 platform, now offers distributed competence management, which uses a role and user interface to allow category owners or experts to classify decisions in cases manually where automated rules cant do so to the clients satisfaction. Category owners also can change the classification rules or insert their organizations phrases and nomenclature.

      The new version of Documentum CIS also offers support for a variety of European languages and provides a prepackaged set of taxonomies for a variety of industries and functional areas within an organization, such as automotive, chemicals, energy, financial, health care, military, pharmaceutical and more.

      Hitachis 15K RPM Hard Drive Supports 4GB and Serial-Attached SCSI

      Hitachi Global Storage Technologies of San Jose, Calif., has released new hard drives with interfaces to both SAS (Serial Attached SCSI) and 4G-bps Fibre Channel. The Ultrastar 15K147 hard drives, available in 36GB, 73GB and 147GB, provide average seek times of up to 3.3 milliseconds and provide 16MB of cache.

      The drives also include Rotational Vibration Safeguard technology, which protects drive performance in high rotational vibration environments, and use motors with a low acoustic rating.

      Maxell Ships LTO Ultrium 3 WORM Media

      Maxell Corp. of America has announced new tape media featuring WORM functionality. The Maxell LTO3 Ultrium 3 product, based on LTO (Linear Tape-Open) Ultrium technology, offers a native transfer rate of 40-to-80M bps and a 400GB capacity.

      The large capacity of the LTO3 WORM-based tape media capitalizes helps companies to comply with federal regulations for records management and retention, said Steven Pofcher, senior marketing manager at the Fair Lawn, N.J.-based company.
