Intel Makes Advances on Serial ATA
Intel this week released the Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) v0.95, a next generation specification designed to boost Serial ATA performance. The specification allows for a standard interface to system driver and OS software to use advanced SATA features as command queuing, hot plugging and power management. Intel said the final spec should be released in early 2004.

Looking to draw Windows users away from Apples wildly popular iPod, Creative has released a mammoth update to its NOMAD Jukebox Zen portable audio player. The hard drive based Zen boasts an immense storage capacity of 60GB – twice that of largest iPod. The USB 2.0 device will sell for about $400.

Daisytek International Files for Chapter 11
Distributor Daisytek Inc., Arlington Industries, Digital Storage and The Tape Company this week filed a petition in Dallas for reorganization under Chapter 11 of the U.S. Bankruptcy Code. Neither Daisytek International Corp. nor any of its foreign subsidiaries in Canada, Mexico, Australia, Argentina and Europe were included in the filing. Shares of Daisytek International fell 44 percent on Wednesday after the announcement.

IQ Biometrix to buy Network Storage Solutions
IQ Biometrix this week said its planning to acquire Network Storage Solutions, a developer and supplier of network storage software and products for security and other applications, in an all-stock deal. The deal would be worth more than $17.3 million based on the May 2 closing price of IQ Biometrix stock. IQ Biometrix makes facial composite products for law enforcement agencies, including the Central Intelligence Agency and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
