Keynote Systems Inc. will straddle both sides of the firewall with a performance monitoring tool that can show IT operators how applications are performing inside and outside the firewall.

Last week, the San Mateo, Calif., company that brought Web site performance benchmarking to the Internet altered its business model and its target in supplying IT with Keynote Enterprise Perspective, which can integrate with existing Enterprise Messaging Servers.

Custom agents installed behind the firewall collect measurements from various sources and then transmit the measurements, along with alarms and other events, to an EMS console. At the same time, an Event Server that accesses Keynotes database for external measurements passes that data securely through the firewall to the Enterprise software module.

Keynote Enterprise Perspective, due next quarter, will start at about $50,000.
