Borland Software Corp. Tuesday announced a new version of its interoperability solution for .Net, Java and Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) applications.
The Scotts Valley, Calif., company announced Janeva 6, an upgrade to its solution to help enterprises integrate new and existing software assets, which Borland introduced last May.
Janeva 6 offers connectivity between Microsoft Corp.s .Net Framework, Java 2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) and CORBA applications, said Vince Taisipic, product manager for Borlands Enterprise Solutions group. And the technology supports several J2EE application servers with transaction and security services such as authorization and authentication. Another new feature in Janeva 6 is new callback technology that enables J2EE and CORBA applications to talk back to .Net applications in a two-way connection.

Janeva is complementary technology to Web services. “We are filling in some of the holes left by existing integration technologies such as Web services,” Taisipic said. “Were committed to Web services. Janeva provides a low-risk and non-intrusive solution. Janeva is purely a direct integration to .Net for J2EE and CORBA. We want to make all these technologies seamless to one another.”
Janeva is based on the Internet Inter-ORB (Object Request Broker) Protocol, or IIOP, Borland officials said. And it works like a plug-in for the .Net Framework like Microsofts Visual Studio .Net and Borlands C#Builder for the Microsoft .Net Framework.
Janeva 6 supports BEA Systems Inc.s WebLogic application server, IBMs WebSphere, Oracle Corp.s Oracle9i and Borlands own application server, the Borland Enterprise Server.
Taisipic said that because Janeva requires no changes to existing back-end systems, it provides an alternative integration option for enterprises that have J2EE or CORBA applications in production.
Borland announced Janeva 1.0 in May; this release is known as Janeva 6 because “1.0 was based on an older framework, but 6.0 is the latest version and we wanted to have one code base.”
In addition to the new version of Janeva, Borland announced a customer for the new technology. Singapore Telecommunications Ltd., also known as SingTel, has incorporated Janeva into its IT operation to connect J2EE-, CORBA- and .Net Framework-based applications, Borland officials said.
Borland also announced the launch of Borland JDataStore 7, the companys database solution for embedded and mobile applications.
New features in JDataStore 7 include automatic failover technology, database mirroring, a server management console for remote server administration, 64-bit database support and a smaller footprint for mobile devices.
