Agere Systems, based in Allentown, Pa., last week announced four wireless networking kits for small businesses, all of which include installation wizard software that encourages users to enable 128-bit encryption.

The Wireless Home & Small Office Networking Kit for the desktop includes an access point, the RG-1100 Broadband Gateway, that wirelessly connects up to 10 computers and provides Internet access from a digital subscriber line or an ISDN or a cable modem connection, as well as encryption and virtual private network support. It costs $349.

The Wireless Home & Small Office Networking Kit for the laptop includes the RG-1100 Broadband Gateway and a PC Card for a laptop computer and also costs $349. The Wireless Home & Small Office Networking Kit for the laptop and desktop also includes a USB (Universal Serial Bus) client device, all for $459.

The Wireless LAN Kit for Small Businesses includes the AP-500 access point, an extended-range antenna and a USB client. It costs $749.
