Hewlett-Packard is buying Aruba Networks to add a strong wireless and mobility element to its networking business.

HP and Aruba officials announced the $3 billion deal March 2, less than a week after rumors of the deal began to surface and a day before Aruba kicks off its annual Atmosphere user conference in Las Vegas.

Once the deal closes, the new HP Networking unit will be led by Aruba CEO Dominic Orr and company co-founder Keerti Melkote, who is Aruba’s chief strategy and technology officer. They will report to Antonio Neri, head of HP’s Enterprise Group.

Intel may continue to trail rival ARM in the important mobile chip market, but company officials believe that a broad array of product offerings and partnerships with OEMs and other chip manufacturers will enable the company to gain a stronger foothold in the mobile market.

As evidence of this effort Intel went to Mobile World Congress 2015 to roll out its latest generation of low-power Atom processors for tablets, smartphones, phablets and notebooks, armed with a new branding scheme and improved connectivity technologies.

Microsoft and AT&T are partnering to provide small and midsize businesses that are invested in the Office 365 ecosystem with a new cloud-based offering that incorporates the productivity platform across mobile platforms.

The two companies assembled the AT&T Mobile Office Suite to help SMBs with limited IT know-how and resources to leverage Microsoft Office’s mobile collaborations features, regardless of device.

The bundled offering, which works with smartphones and tablets on AT&T’s network, includes access to Office 365 Online along with voice-over-IP integration and technical support.
