Borland Software Corp. on Wednesday continued its buying spree this month, announcing that it intends to acquire Java development tools maker TogetherSoft Corp. for $185 million in a cash-and-stocks deal.
Borland, of Scotts Valley, Calif., earlier this month bought Starbase Corp. for $24 million and BoldSoft AB for an undisclosed amount to give configuration management software and model driven architecture expertise to its offerings.
Borland officials said the TogetherSoft acquisition will add to its design-driven development capabilities.
“By tightly integrating TogetherSofts design and analysis technology with Borlands development solutions, we would enable companies to create business applications more quickly and to compete more effectively,” Borland President and CEO Dale Fuller said in a prepared statement.
Borland officials said Borland will invest in both its own JBuilder products and TogetherSofts ControlCenter suite of products, creating hybrid products that will support all platforms, including Java and .Net.
Borland also will gain the Java development products—including VisualCafe and StructureBuilder—that TogetherSoft acquired when it bought WebGain Inc.s WebGain Studio in August.
