Intel Phones Up

Intel advanced its “post-PC” strategy, announcing a partnership with Symbian to codevelop tools for writing applications that run on Intel chips and the Symbian OS, which was designed for smart mobile phones. Intel and Symbian — a consortium that includes Ericsson, Nokia and Psion — plan to port the Symbian OS to run on Intels StrongARM processors.

Disengage

Internet marketing software firm Engage, a subsidiary of CMGI, will lay off 100 of its 530 employees, and will ax another 125 if it cant find a buyer for its online advertising business unit. Engage execs say the company plans to shift its focus to content management software for multichannel marketing.

3Com Settles Suit

3Com settled a lawsuit with MagiTech, an Ohio computer distributor, that alleged MagiTech had illegally repackaged and sold more than 10,000 3Com network interface cards in counterfeit boxes. In May, 3Com filed suit against MagiTech, accusing it of trademark and copyright infringement, false designation of origin, unfair competition and breach of contract. Terms of the settlement were not disclosed.
